A fabric has different stages from manufacturing to cutting for clothing. Mainly fabric produced by weaving or knitting process, then there are some treatments to make ready for dyeing. After dyeing and some finishing process, we get the finished fabric. Every stage of fabric, we define by a name. These are Greige Fabric, RFD Fabric, and Finished Fabric. Here we are discussing Greige Fabric and RFD Fabric; and what are differences between them. I am present here the Difference Between Greige Fabric and RFD Fabric.
Greige Fabric
After Fabric manufacturing in the weaving or knitting process, the fabric does not have any color. The natural color we see in the fabric is grey. It is an unfinished fabric that just directly knitting machine or weaving loom machine. That raw stage of fabric is called Greige fabric. The Greige Fabric cannot be dyed directly. Because it has natural waxes, dirt, grease, pectin, natural waxes, fats, and Sizing chemicals. Greige Fabric’s price is definitely lower than RFD’s.
RFD Fabric
RFD stands for Ready for Dyeing. That means fabrics have already gone through all the required processes from Greige Fabric. Those processes are singing, de-sizing, scouring, bleaching, mercerizing, and so on. These processes are applied to remove waxes, dirt, grease, pectin, natural waxes, fats, and oils present on the fabric surface that make fabric suitable for dyeing.
Difference Between Greige Fabric and RFD Fabric
No. | Difference Matters | Greige Fabrics | RFD Fabric |
01 | Definition | Greige Fabrics which come from weaving or knitting directly and no extra process applied there is termed as greige fabrics. | RFD fabrics come from greige fabrics which are passed through a lot of processes such as scouring, bleaching, equalizing, etc. are termed RFD fabrics. |
02 | Comes from | Directly comes from a weaving or knitting factory. | Comes through a lot of processes such as scouring, bleaching, equalizing processes, etc. |
03 | Color | Though greige fabrics are the main root of any fabric. Each greige fabric has to be ready for preparing the Pre-treatment process of dyeing fabric. | The color of the RFD fabric is white. |
04 | Prepared for | RFD fabrics are prepared for the dyeing or printing process in order to make finished fabric. | RFD fabric is used for garment dyeing, white color garments manufacturing, printing, etc. |
05 | Costing matters | The cost of the greige is cheaper than RFD fabrics. | The cost of RFD fabrics is higher than greige fabrics. |
06 | Object | The main object of greige fabrics is to prepare RFD fabrics. | RFD fabric is used for garment dyeing, white-color garments manufacturing, printing, etc. |
07 | Use | Greige Fabrics can use in Upholstery, uniforms, accessories, window treatments, tentage & marine products apart | Dyeing and Printing process. |
08 | Next Process in Manufacturing | Convert to RFD Fabric | Convert to Finished Fabric. |
Conclusion
Both Greige and RFD are only different processing stages of fabric. Greige Fabric is get converted into RFD Fabric in a stage of fabric processing. They lose their identity once the fabric reaches the finishing stage.
