What are the most important departments in the apparel industry, if this question is asked anywhere, the production planning and control department will always include the answer everywhere. The main objective of this department is to plan for on-time material availability, cut, sew, make finish products, and give on-time delivery to customers; all these things are to be done based on capacity, so proper execution is also necessary. First, need to do a capacity study of whatever products get ordered from the buyer and then plan accordingly; the most important thing is to have control for proper implementation. So many tasks to do by the planning department in order to meet the right shipment date. So the functions of the production planning and control (PPC) department is very big, it started before getting order because the planning team takes and distribute order based on the factory production capacity.
Functions of Production Planning and Control (PPC) department in the Apparel Industry
- To manage production planning staff and scheduling of raw materials to meet production schedules.
- To analyze and evaluate of production plan and present operational performances and trends.
- To analyze and evaluation of customer demands and to present marketing performances and product trends.
- Close relationship with operational teams to ensure on-time delivery of products & optimal utilization of equipment & manpower.
- To optimize the plan in terms of increasing SAH, Efficiency considering capability.
- To make the plan in such a way that category continuation is maintained for achieving the best efficiency.
- To communicate with the concerned merchant for any OTT (On-time tracking) issue.
- To follow up OTT (On time tracking) cart & Time and Action (T&A) calendar, PCD (Product Cutting Date), PSD (Production Start date) & OCD (Order Closing Date).
- To make all types of analytical reports at any time required by management.
- To circulate monthly plan & forecast of export, continuous follow up on production performances and drive towards scheduled shipments follow up & giving best effort to hit OTD (on-time delivery).
- To take any strategic decision towards company benefit discussing with management.
- Close follow-up with related departments to avoid any kind of jeopardy.
- To make the production plan according to budgeted VA, SAH, Eff, and export VA.
- Ensure accurate & optimal capacity planning, and capacity allocation by receiving the master order book from the marketing team.
- Distribute the orders to each floor considering the floor’s feasibility.
- Monthly Capacity planning meeting with business development team and marketing team. And discuss with management regarding all production capacity issues.
- Discuss with management regarding any capacity issues.
- Finalize capacity charts, create the loading hours, available or opening capacity hours & submit to management.
- Coordinate with supply chain team, marketing team, production & IE team, and perform all capacity planning activities in the facility.
- Close follow-up with MIS team for any kind of report.

- To analyze and evaluation of production plans and present operational performances and trends.
- To analyze and evaluation of customer demands and to present marketing performances and product trends.
- Close relationship with operational teams to ensure on-time delivery of products & optimal utilization of equipment & manpower.
- To optimize the plan in terms of increasing SAH, Efficiency considering capability.
